Dr. Aashna Mehta

Associate Professor, IIPH-Delhi

Dr. Aashna Mehta is an Economist with experience in the field of health economics, healthcare financing, pharmaceutical economics and policy. She holds a PhD in Economics from the Centre of Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi and has worked in the areas of health financing, costing, health accounts, budget tracking and analysis, investment case development, impact evaluation of public policies, pharmaceutical procurement practices, competition issues in the private market, antimicrobial consumption among others. In her experience spanning over a decade, her research and policy work has focused not just on India but also countries in the South-East Asia region.

Dr. Mehta has worked at the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) for over a decade. She is presently working as an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Public Health-Delhi (IIPH-Delhi) and continues to work with PHFI as a consultant. She has contributed to and led several research projects funded by the World Health Organization, USAID and European Union among others including those on antibiotic utilisation and regulation as well as procurement and supply chain management. She has been appointed as an expert member of the Quadripartite Technical Group on Economics of Antimicrobial Resistance. The Quadripartite is made of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

Dr. Mehta has provided policy support to the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Government of India. She possesses high level skills in the field of economics and statistical analysis and is well versed with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. She is proficient in working with large datasets including pharmaceutical sales and prescription data.
