PHFI Centre for Distance Learning offers one year Diploma Programs, Certificate programs ranging from 3-6 months of duration in key areas of public health practice. To know more about the program details, please visit the program page and download the course brochure
PHFI established PHFI Centre for Distance Learning in the year 2011 to offer programs through distance learning across key areas of public health practice. Currently we are offering 15 programs through online mode. Our courses are designed for working health professionals and graduates who are looking to upgrade their knowledge and skills in their professional sphere.

Students can request a cancellation of any service and a refund of the corresponding fees paid to the Foundation by sending a request in writing (by email, fax or post) that is received by the Foundation within seven working days of the original request for the service.

After the seven working day period as described above, application handling fees, registration fees and examination entry fees, as applicable, are not refundable. Examination fees cannot be transferred from one examination to another. In the event that a decision is taken by the Foundation to withdraw a program, any applicant who has not yet accepted an offer will be given a full refund of all fees within 30 days of their request for a refund.

Admission related queries

At PHFI Centre for Distance Learning, admissions to all the distance learning programs are open round the year in the following two batches: 1. To register for January Batch – Register between July to December 2. To register for July Batch – Register between December to July

Programs Eligibility Criteria
Post Graduate Diploma Programs
Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health Nutrition Graduates in all disciplines, especially public health, nutrition, AYUSH and medicine; Paramedicals, personnel, including nurses, social workers, public health educators and health assistants; Researchers from nutrition and allied fields, including clinicians involved in nutrition research, Nutrition programme related practitioners in the public and private sectors.
Post Graduate Diploma in Health Promotion Applicants should have at least a Bachelors' degree in Public Psychology/ Biological Sciences/ Social Sciences/ Allied Health Sciences or equivalent. The course is open to both government nominated (health professionals working with directorates of health services, central and state governments, officials engaged in health services at national, state and district level government institutions) and self-sponsored applicants.
Post Graduate Diploma in Epidemiology
  • Health professionals working with directorates of health services, central and state governments, officials engaged in health services at national, state and district level government institutions
  • Applicants engaged in health services with National Health Programmes like National Rural Health Mission, Integrated Disease Surveillance Project, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme etc.
  • Applicants with graduate/post-graduate qualifications in medical and allied fields with relevant work experience in public health with health related organizations/NGO's
  • Only Indian nationals are eligible for this program
Post Graduate Diploma in Management of Reproductive and Child Health Programs The course is open to health professionals who are involved or wish to be involved in managing the RCH program at the state or district level. Applicants should have at least a Bachelors' degree in Medicine or Nursing or higher degrees in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Work or Management.
Certificate/Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Health and Hospital Management For Nursing And Allied Health Professionals The applicant should be either a student or a graduate in General Nurse Midwifery / BSc. Nursing / BSc. Post Basic / Msc. Nursing / Pharmacy / Physiotherapy / AYUSH stream / Dental science. The course is open to any graduates of any other streams if they possess two years relevant experience in health sector. The course will also be useful to the following:
  • Graduates from other systems of alternative medicine or paramedical sciences inclined to take up public health as a career.
  • Professionals working in teaching, research, consultancy agencies in medicine, health and development sectors.
  • Professionals from NGOs working in the area of health and development and professionals from clinical research institutions.
Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health Services Management
  • Applicants currently engaged in public health related activities such as health professionals working with directorates of health services, AYUSH, central and state governments, officials engaged in health services at national, state and district level government institutions. Applicants engaged in health services with National Health Programmes like National Rural Health Mission, Integrated Disease Surveillance Project, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, etc.
  • Applicants with graduate/post-graduate qualifications in medical and allied fields. The candidates with relevant work experience in public health with health related organizations/ NGO's would be given preference.

Certificate Programs (6 months)

Program Eligibility
Certificate Programme in Research Methodology Any graduate or equivalent experience with functional level knowledge of English and use of computers. The course will be useful to students pursuing MD, DNB, MPH, MPhil or PhD programs; graduates from different systems of alternative medicine or paramedical sciences inclined to take up public health as a career; professionals working in teaching, research, consultancy agencies in medicine, health and development sectors, clinical and marketing research.
Certificate Course in STI & HIV/AIDS
  • Applicants should have a graduate/ post-graduate degree in medicine, AYUSH, dental, nursing, pharmacy, health sciences, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, natural/ life sciences, management, social sciences, social work or any equivalent qualification
  • Applicants with work experience in health/ development Sector
  • Applicants currently engaged in STI and/ or HIV/AIDS programs, research or trainings in health systems or NGOs
  • Applicants with relevant qualification who have an interest to work in STI and HIV but do not have relevant work experience
Certificate Course on Improving Management of Public Health Programs - Tools and Strategies The certificate program will be useful to public health managers (both government and non -government) concerned about the efficiency, effectiveness and impact of their work. Persons working with government (for example district program managers, state level program managers) and nongovernment organizations (for example program officers / managers / coordinators) at managerial positions will stand to gain most from this program.
Short Term Course on Tobacco Control Medicine/Dentistry/Nursing/Pharmacy/Psychology/Biological Sciences/Social Sciences/Allied Health Sciences or equivalent. The course is open to both government nominated (health professionals working with directorates of health services, central and state governments, officials engaged in health services at national, state and district level government institutions) and self-sponsored applicants.

Certificate Course on Monitoring and Evaluation of Health Programs
  • Applicants currently engaged in public health related activities such as health professionals working with directorates of health services, central and state governments, officials engaged in health services at national, state and district level government institutions.
  • Applicants engaged in health services with National Health Programs like, Integrated Disease Surveillance Project, National Vector Borne Disease Control Program, HIV/AIDS, Nutrition, Maternal and Child Health Programs etc.
  • Applicants with graduate/post-graduate qualifications in medical and allied fields with relevant work experience in public health with health related organizations/NGO.
Certificate Course in Managing Human Resources for Health in India Graduates in any discipline, especially management, medicine, paramedic, public health, social sciences, economics or any other health-related field. This course is designed for experienced health officials and staff involved in managing, developing strategies and setting policies for human resource development. Potential candidates include professionals working in health management such as: District Programme Managers (DPMs)/ District Programme Coordinators (DPCs), District Medical and Health Officers (DMHOs), Establishment Department Officials, Sub-Divisional Hospital Administrators/ Hospital Administrators, HR managers in professional settings and working with civil society organisations.
Certificate Course in GIS application in Public Health
  • Applicants with graduate/post-graduate qualifications with relevant work experience in Public Health.
  • Applicants currently engaged in public health related activities such as monitoring and evaluation , planning, research , epidemiological surveillance, data management etc.
  • PHFI offers a wide range of distance learning programs through Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs).     South Asian Candidates: The website of South Asian University (SAU), an international university established by the eight member nations of South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) states “Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka” as part of South Asia. Any candidate belonging to either of these 8 countries would be charged the same fee as that of Indian Nationals.

    All distance learning courses at PHFI utilizes a blended online teaching/ learning technique. The basic course structure includes a combination of interactive online computer-based sessions, online virtual lectures, assessments and recommended readings from journal articles and textbooks in a modular format.
    PHFI Centre for Distance Learning has a vibrant cluster of multidisciplinary faculty who have been trained globally. Each faculty brings a plethora of experience and expertise in delivering distance learning programs. For more details, please visit :[faculty page]
    You can interact with the faculty via live interactive sessions and discussion forums. You can also connect with the course faculty via program officer to solve your course queries.
    The schedule for virtual classes is different for different courses. Kindly refer to the Virtual Class schedule available on the student login.

    PHFI CDL Portal is compatible with and fully functional, in all modern devices (Laptop, Desktop, Tablets etc..). You can access it from anywhere anytime.

    However, we have set a minimum recommended configurations:

    Yes, you can attend these sessions from your workplace subject to availability of necessary IT infrastructure required for accessing the study contents.
    Though it is not mandatory to attend live interactive sessions, we strongly recommend you to attend them to gain the best learning experience.

    Evaluation and Assessment Related Queries

    PHFI Centre for Distance learning mainly utilizes a mix of examinations at the completion of each module, internal assignments and one final examination at the end of the program. Please refer to the Course handbook for program specific evaluation mechanism.
    Final online diploma/certificate will be awarded only to the students who successfully complete the course and clear all the course requirements. Please refer to the course handbook/connect with program officer for details regarding program specific course requirements.
