Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) remains a major thrust of National Health Mission of India. RCH programs are also increasing in their complexity due to increased basket of services and increasing resources. There is therefore a growing need for Program managers at state and district Program Management Units to have the requisite knowledge and skills to effectively manage the RCH programmes.
Aims and Objectives
The course aims to enhance capacity and skills of participants to effectively manage reproductive and child health programmes.
Course Design and DurationThe total duration of the course is twelve months. The programme is an online distance learning course involving virtual lectures, group interactions, self-reading, exercises and project work.
The course is open to health professionals who are involved or wish to be involved in managing the RCH program at the state or district level. Applicants should have at least a Bachelors’ degree in Medicine or Nursing or higher degrees in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Work or Management.
Course ContentThe course will equip the potential students to apply the principles of management in their practice. The quality and content offered by the course will enhance competencies related to program management specific to reproductive and child health areas. The entire course is divided into 10 modules covering various aspects of reproductive and child health. The course will cover a total of 30 credits. Name of the Modules

Teaching and Training Methodology
It is a distance learning program with 1 pre-recorded lecture (of maximum 1 hour duration) and 16 hours of self-reading per week. Besides, there will be a group interaction once every month (for approximately 1 hour duration). The variety of teaching/ learning techniques includes self-reading, online sessions and discussion with mentors through discussion board and project report. There will also be an e-mail tutorial support and group discussion through web based system.
English is the main language for instructions. Faculty with diverse disciplinary backgrounds, national and international experience combined with a breadth and depth of public health knowledge will teach this course.
Evaluation and award of diploma
The assessment system that the course intends to follow had three tiers, i.e. concurrent assessment, interim assessment and final assessment.Concurrent Assessment will include
- Virtually provided mixture of objective type questions at the end of each lecture
- Project work (Mandatory for the certification of course)
Interim Assessment will include an examination to be held after completing first five modules. Objective type questions and short questions will be used for this assessment.Final Assessment will include final term examination. The distribution of weightage of marks for each of the component will be as follows Virtually provided objective type questions   30% Project work 30% Interim assessment   20% Final assessment 20% Final online diploma/certificate will be awarded only to the students who successfully complete the course and clear all the course requirements.
