Dr. Shailendra Sawleshwarkar is a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Academic at the Western Sydney Sexual Health Centre, Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney. Shailendra trained in Medicine at Seth GS Medical College and King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. He undertook his residency training at Grant Medical College and completed his MD from the University of Mumbai in which he came first. He later joined Grant Medical College, Mumbai as a Lecturer in the Department of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Dermatology. He received a scholarship from the European AIDS Clinical Society to further his training in HIV at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London under the guidance of Professor Brian Gazzard.
Shailendra is a member of the South Asian Regional Advisory Expert Group at the University of Sydney and works closely with the Office for Global Health at the Sydney Medical School and the Marie Bashir Institute for Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity. Shailendra has been involved in coordinating the Masters in HIV, STIs and Sexual Health Program at the University of Sydney and also led the development of short courses in HIV for a diverse range of healthcare providers. He has international collaborations in workforce development through innovative cross-disciplinary educational approaches. He has received many capacity building grants for his work in India, South East Asia and Africa. Shailendra has several years of STIs/HIV clinical and research experience in Australia, India, and the United Kingdom and is passionate about developing educational and research partnerships for global health and development.
