Background

eCourse in One Health Approach for Pandemic Preparedness (OHAPP) is a three-month eLearning program designed to cover basic concepts of One Health, and its various implications for the pandemic preparedness. This course has been developed by the Centre for One Health Education, Research and Development (COHERD), Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG). COHERD is a designated centre for excellence striving to work on interdisciplinary topics of One Health. Within the broad field of One Health, the key focus of the centre is on zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, health system strengthening, disease surveillance, and biosecurity in South and East Asia. This course will be delivered by a multi-disciplinary Global One Health experts both from India and aboard.

Aims and purpose:

The aim of this course is to introduce participants to the concepts & components of HSE and understand HSE issues in India and globally. Broadly, it will help participants to:

  • To develop an understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of One Health concept and it’s history among the participants.
  • To explain One Health's role in preventing and preparing for a pandemic of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
  • To explain risk factors at the human-animal-environment interface for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
  • To understand the various aspects of pandemic preparedness and Global Health security.
  • To understand the concept of effective interdisciplinary communication, leadership, intersectoral collaboration and teamwork from One Health perspective in pandemic preparedness

Target Audience/Eligible Candidates:

It is a multi-disciplinary course for students, practitioners, and researchers. Interested candidates from the disciplines of public health, medical and paramedical, veterinary, agriculture, environmental science, life science, developmental studies or related disciplines can apply

List of modules:

Topics include an introduction to the One Health concept, a risk-based approach to One Health, concepts on pandemic prevention and global health security, and One Health competencies in pandemic preparedness.

Evaluation/Assessment:

The course's Evaluation and assessment will be online: multiple-choice questions and assignments. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate.
