Subhojit’s expertise lies in the area of cancer research with maximum focus being on women’s cancers. His other areas of research interests include alternative medicine esp. Ayurveda, urban health, non-communicable diseases, health communication, health systems, advocacy and policy. He has more than 20 publications including articles, books and book chapters on above areas. Subhojit has had continued interests in the health of populations in developing countries, having worked extensively in USA, Africa and India in collaboration with researchers from USA, Africa, Middle-East, UK-Europe and India.
Subhojit completed his MBBS from JIPMER, Pondicherry and MD in Alternative Medicine from Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine, Kolkata before doing MPH in International health Epidemiology from University of Michigan School of Public Health (UMPSH), Ann Arbor, USA. He also completed his PhD in Epidemiology from UMSPH with a focus on cancer research in 2009. Following his postdoc at UMSPH in June 2010, Subhojit worked as Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Public Health, Delhi (IIPHD). Since November, 2013 Subhoijt has been an Associate Professor at IIPHD.
Currently, Subhojit heads a project on breast cancer awareness evaluation in partnership with the Indian Cancer Society, Delhi. He is also part of projects related to the use of pesticides and breast cancer in Punjab, and an ICMR task force study on health issues of internal migrants in Nasik India. Apart from that Subhojit has been a part of the High Level Expert Group (HLEG) tasked with creation of the Universal Health Coverage report for the Planning Commission. Subhojit is also actively involved in teaching epidemiology, biostatistics and quantitative health research.
