An Associate Professor, Dr. Suparna has more than 17 years of experience as a clinical, academic and research nutritionist. She has a Masters and a Ph.D degree in Food & Nutrition from Delhi University. She is a qualified Accredited Practicing Dietician (APD) and Accredited Nutritionist (AN) from Australia. Her Ph.D. work was on “Development of a counselling module for prevention of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) in children of parents with premature CHD”. She has extensive experience as a senior clinical nutritionist. She has worked as a research dietician with the Western Sydney Genetics Program, Australia where she coordinated a clinical trial on Phenylketonuria. As a researcher at Sick Kids Hospital, Toronto, Canada, she worked in the area of Maternal Phenylketonuria and was also involved in a population-based study. She has also worked as a Consultant (Health, Nutrition & Family Welfare Division) in Planning Commission of India, a lecturer in Lady Irwin College, Delhi University and the National Coordinator for a World Bank assisted capacity building project on Food and Drug Safety under the Government of India. In her current profile she is involved in teaching PHN and her research work focuses on exploring maternal an child nutrition among the vulnerable communities like urban slum dwellers and tribal communities. Her research work also focuses on nutrition policies for prevention of chronic diseases in India.
