About the course

Assigning monetary values to health outcomes has been a contentious issue for health program managers and researchers due to ethical and methodological concerns for long. Monetary values of health outcomes are needed to arrive at costs of interventions/treatments and is a key outcome measure for economic evaluations, especially cost-benefit analysis. Contingent valuation (CV) method is a survey based, hypothetical and direct method determine monetary valuations of effect of health technologies or interventions. The use of contingent valuation methods in health care is well established in literature and is under-researched in India. The method provides a promising tool to value health outcomes and can have multiple uses in program evaluation beyond economic evaluation. This training program would provide a hands on training on CV methods including design, execution, data analysis and use of such studies. The participants would conduct a CV study and use their own data to analyse and interpret results. The course would use Stata software for statistical analysis and participants are expected to have basic understanding of the use of statistical software.
